About The RAV4 Wheel Bearing
In order to attach the axles (connected to the wheels) to the car and allow easy rotation bearings must be used.
These wheel bearings may be replaced several times during the life of the RAV4 as they take a lot of punishment.
They are usually in the middle of the force between the ground and the shock absorbers that dampen it for a comfortable ride.
Depending on the type of use, you may find you need to replace your wheel bearings in your Toyota RAV4 – all of the models have them fitted at each wheel.
RAV4 Wheel Bearing Noise
Usually, the first sign that a wheel bearing has gone will be in the form of a new noise coming from the corner of the car where the bearing has gone.
As the bearing is made up of ball bearings sandwiched between two rings of metal you will probably notice the noise as a grind.
If one of the front wheel bearings has broken then that noise would be even more evident when turning the steering wheel.
This problem will escalate with speed or when turning the steering wheel in full lock.
Replacement RAV4 Wheel Bearings Cost
The single wheel bearings for a RAV4 can be bought for as little as $50 each and usually include the hub that they are attached to.
Many sellers of wheel bearings will offer you multi-packs where you can buy 2 or even 4 at once and save greatly on the overall price.
Sometimes you may only need to replace the rubber seals that protect the ball bearings inside from dirt – these can be picked up for mere dollars each.
Luckily the wheel bearing and the hub it is attached to are fairly easy to access for mechanics or those doing the work themselves.
They are located between the suspension arm and the brake disc with the axle traveling freely inside of it as shown in the following diagram.
It should not be an expensive visit in terms of labor if you are visiting a dealership or garage to fix your RAV4 wheel bearing.
If you do need to fix the problem yourself then you only need to secure the hub to the car with 75nm of torque.
